FAQs
What service does Fine Print Fluent provide?
1
Fine Print Fluent provides plain English contract explanations. An attorney will personally review your contract, prepare a written plain English summary of every material term, and walk you through it on a 30-minute video call.
We do not provide legal advice, negotiate on your behalf, or tell you whether to sign. We simply explain the terms in a way that you understand without the legalese.
A flat fee of $399, collected at the time of booking covers the full engagement: contract review, written summary, and 30 minute video call. No hourly billing or surprises.
An employment contract will govern your income and professional obligations for years, potentially representing millions of dollars over its life.
We might be biased, but we think $399 to make sure you understand what you’re signing is one of the most straightforward investments you can make.

What if I want to change something in my contract?
3
Our service is focused on making sure you understand what your contract says so you’re not surprised later. We don’t negotiate on your behalf or modify the contract. If, after your session, you decide you want to pursue changes, we can refer you to attorneys in our network who can help.
It is worth nothing that many employers - particularly large hospital systems - present contracts on largely “take it or leave it” terms. Understanding exactly what those terms are is a valuable first step, regardless of whether negotiation is possible.
What does Fine Print Fluent do that I cannot do with Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
4
AI can summarize a contract. What it cannot do is have a real conversation with you about yours.
When you sit on a call with an attorney who has personally read your contract, you can ask follow-up questions and get direct, specific answers. You can push back. You can say you do not understand something and have it explained a different way. AI generates output, not a conversation.
We also have experience and context. We have reviewed contracts across multiple specialties and employer types. When we tell you something is unusual or aggressive, that observation comes from real pattern recognition, not a single-document analysis.
AI is improving and we respect its capabilities. But a 30-minute conversation with a real person about your specific contract is not something AI can replicate.
Why do I have to wait a week to book a video call?
5
Because we do the work before we get on the video call. We use the time between booking and your call to thoroughly review your contract and prepare your written summary. Our call should be spent on conversation and questions - not wasted on your lawyer reading your contract for the first time.
What happens before the video call?
6
After booking you will receive a confirmation email with the date and time that you booked for your appointment. Fine Print Fluent will review the contract and prepare your written summary, which will be emailed to you about 24 hours before the call, give or take. There are no refunds issued if you cancel the call after your written summary is emailed to you.
What happens during the video call?
7
We will walk you through the written summary and the contract itself, top to bottom. We will explain what each provision means in plain language and answer any questions you might have. We can tell you whether something is market (common) or not market (unusual). The goal is simple: by the end of the call, you understand exactly what it is you are being asked to sign.
What happens after the video call?
8
You’ll receive a brief follow-up email recapping the key points discussed. Your written summary is of course yours to keep, but the engagement is largely complete at the conclusion of your call. That said, we are not robots and will not charge you for a simple follow-up question or two.
Is Fine Print Fluent a law firm?
9
No - Fine Print Fluent is a contract summary service. Sessions are conducted by an attorney, but the service is the plain language explanation of terms - not legal advice or representation. If you need negotiation or representation services, we are happy to refer you to someone within our network.
Is my information kept confidential?
10
Of course - your personal information and the specific contents of your contract are kept strictly confidential and never shared with any third party in an identifiable form
Like most service platforms, we may use aggregated and fully anonymized data to identify trends and improve our service. For example, we might analyze patterns across hundreds of contracts to understand how non-compete clauses vary by specialty or region, or how signing bonus structures have changed over time.
That kind of insight helps us serve clients better, but it is statistical in nature and cannot be traced back to you or any individual client in any way. Full details are available in our Terms of Service.
What type of contracts do you review?
11
We review contracts of all kinds. Our initial focus is employment contracts primarily in the medical field, but we are well equipped to break down any kind of contract you might have.
The service is available to anyone who has a contract they want explained in plain English, regardless of industry or profession. Our service translates to any complex agreement. If you are unsure whether your contract is a good fit, reach out before booking and we will let you know.
How long are the contracts you review?
12
Most contracts we review are in the range of 5-30pages. Some employers use antiquated contracts that are overkill and end up being closer to the 30 number. Others take a more modern approach and include only what’s necessary without as much legalese. Either way, we review the full package.
If you have an unusually complex or lengthy contract (over 30 pages with multiple exhibits) please reach out before booking and we can discuss whether the standard engagement is sufficient.
Can I use Fine Print Fluent if I am still in training?
13
Yes. In fact, our company was designed to help people in your exact position, and the ideal time to use our service is in the final year of your training when job offers and contracts start arriving. Many of our clients are residents, fellows, or otherwise in the process of transitioning to their first full-time position. The earlier you engage with your contract the more time you have to ask questions and make informed decisions.
What if I have already signed my contract?
14
We can still help. Understanding what is in a contract you have already signed is genuinely useful. You may have obligations, restrictions, or rights that you are not fully aware of. A review after the fact gives you clarity on what you agreed to and helps you plan accordingly. Book a session the same way and note in the intake form that the contract has already been signed.
What if I receive a revised contract after our session?
15
A revised contract is a new document and would require a new engagement. Reach out after your call and we will review the revised version at the standard rate. However, as mentioned above, we are not robots so if the revisions are minor or they’re just changing a few sentences, get in touch with us and we will use our discretion.
How do I upload my contract and what format should it be in?
16
When you book your session you will be prompted to upload your contract as a PDF directly through the booking form. If for some reason you cannot upload your contract, please email it directly to info@fineprintfluent.com after you book (and let us know of the issue so we can send an angry email letter to our website people). We need your contract at least 7 days before your scheduled call to ensure a thorough review.
PDFs are preferred and work best. Word documents are also accepted. If your contract was sent to you as a scanned image like a JPEG or in an online-only environment, ask the sender for a separate PDF or Word copy. They will almost always send one.
100% refund if cancelled within 24 hours of booking
50% refund if cancelled more than 24 hours after your booking (subject to the bullet point below)
Non-refundable once your written summary has been emailed to you, if you cancel the same day of your video call, or if you no show for your video call (you can reschedule your call if necessary).
We usually start working on your contract very soon after you send it to us. With that in mind, we will honor refunds if you cancel within 24 hours, but need to ensure we’re compensated for the time we’ve already spent reviewing it after that.
17
Is the fee refundable?
Yes. If you need to reschedule, please do so as far in advance as possible and we will find a new time that works. We understand you are busy and your schedule can change. We will do our best to accommodate that.
18
Can I reschedule my call?
Click the Book Your Call button on the top right of this site. You will be directed to a short intake form where you provide some basic information, agree to our Terms of Service, upload your contract, and pay the fee. Once payment is confirmed, you select your call time from available slots. All slots are at least 7 days out from the booking date.

How do I book a session?
Who conducts the review and the call?
20
Every review and call is conducted personally by the founder of Fine Print Fluent, a licensed attorney with deep transactional experience. You are not handed off to a law student or automated system. The same person who reads your contract is the person you speak with on your call.
We guarantee that we will answer your questions directly and honestly and that you will better understand your contract when we are finished. We cannot guarantee any particular outcome because our service is explanation, not representation, and the ultimate decisions remain entirely yours.
If for any reason you feel the service did not meet your expectations, please reach out directly and be honest with us. We stand behind our work and will always make it right.
